White Fragility

Racism isn't just something done by violent mobs in white pointy hoods or MAGA hats. It's baked into our culture and the result is structural and personal inequalities that won't go away just because some well-meaning white people don't want to be seen as racist. In fact, that attitude only makes racism in our country stronger. This book shows how our society - the media, institutions, ads, textbooks - is constructed to buffer white Americans from any kind of racial discomfort. Fear, anger, guilt, and pleas for silence or an end to difficult discussions are all manifestations of this problem, and reinforce it. This book helps people explore the problem, drop their defenses, and show up for social justice in a respectful, open, and meaningful way.
