Jennifer Pate, the artist behind Maridad Studio creates whimsical yet thought provoking illustrations which aim to combat harmful depictions of the human form in the media we consume today. By reflecting on their own experience as a hispanic queer female artist, Jenn produces surreal depictions as a way to expand on limiting structures of identity. With a strong fascination for rendering the human form and after studying figure drawing for over a decade, some illustrations are produced completely from the artist's imagination. While flexing that childlike muscle for imagination is fun, Jenn also finds it important to share similar voices and stories alongside her own. Collaborating on creating a unique piece that helps share someone else's story is integral to her job as an artist and creating space for community.
